2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following a period of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all excited to persist witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.
The President

Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a early access event. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Face the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Project Ethos does not have an announced release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as development advances.
